How much is Costa del Sol property? A guide to prices and regions

Property in Costa del Sol, or the ‘Coast of the Sun’ as it translates, has always been desirable for the UK market, with buyers being drawn to the sun, sea and golf. With the luxury lifestyle of Marbella, the family-friendly town of Fuengirola and the rich character of Estepona, it really has something for everyone.

Few places have a genuine 12-month season, however, Costa del Sol buzzes year-round in the micro-climate areas on Andalucía’s southern Mediterranean coast. With its beautiful natural ports, rich history and miles of golden sandy beaches, this area will always be one of our favourites. There are numerous public airports available, all of which handle international flights, making buying property in Costa del Sol the ideal choice for holiday-makers and seasonal rentals.

Notoriously more expensive than Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol property is still in high demand and provides an excellent investment opportunity. In this article we will be providing a guide to the budget you will need in order to buy a property in Costa del Sol.

View Costa del Sol property for €175,000 – €250,000

In order to purchase a desirable property in Costa del Sol, we suggest having a minimum budget of €175,000.

The prestigious areas of Puerto Banus and Marbella will demand a higher price point, but if you’re looking to get a little more for your budget, prices are lower in towns further along the coast, such as Estepona. You could also consider Mijas Pueblo and Las Cala de Mija which are only around 22km south of Málaga, and showcase lovely white villages nestling in the mountains behind the coast.

For a budget of €175,000 – €250,000 you will be looking to purchase a small new build or resale 2-3 bedroom apartment in the Mijas or Estepona regions of Malaga.

With the addition of a higher budget, you’ll notice that you have slightly more choice, and may be able to afford desirable resale 3-4 bed townhouses in Estepona, an apartment on a golf course further inland or a brand new luxury apartment in the likes of Fuengirola.

Despite its close proximity to the ever-popular Marbella, Estepona is quieter in terms of tourists, with a relaxed atmosphere and miles of white sandy beaches. Full of all the traditional charms of Spain, there are plenty of restaurants and water sports facilities on hand, plus a fishing port by the cove of Playa del Cristo. If fishing and water sports isn’t your thing, you’ll have time to explore the whitewashed old town centres and browse traditional Spanish shops.

‘This is the perfect location if you want affordable property within a few minutes’ drive from Marbella!’
